The intent of my design was to bring the citizens of Jersey City a centralized location where people could take part in many different activities collectively. Beginning with the master plan the location of the main building was situated close to the Path rail station for safety and convenience. Upon walking up to and entering the building the viewer’s eye will rise along the protruding masonry walls edge and follow the structures along the ceiling and back down again. These wall conditions are seen throughout the site and sometimes act as barriers, passages or benches. The purposes of the walls are to help guide people to where they want to be within the building or site. From there, the building splits out into the site along two major axes along Woodward Street and the previous Morris Canal path. Outside the building the tectonic ideas of the building continue along the paths and are integrated with the benches where activities are closely located to encourage the interaction of people.
